What do to in St Lucia and iSimangaliso Wetland Park

St Lucia, the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and the surrounding areas offer a wealth of exciting places and activities. Most of these are close to St Lucia, making it the ideal place to stay. The Pelican Collection guesthouses and lodges will all be able to assist you with bookings of safaris and tours at no extra cost.

Hippo & Croc Tour

Come face to face with the large residents of the lake, the hippos and crocodiles, as well as a myriad of birds and other wildlife.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park – Eastern & Western shores

As Nelson Mandela attempted to describe it: “iSimangaliso must be the only place on the globe where the oldest land mammal (the rhinoceros) and the world’s biggest terrestrial mammal (the elephant) share an ecosystem with the world’s oldest fish (the coelacanth) and the world’s biggest marine mammal (the whale).

Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Park

South Africa’s oldest games, home not only to the Big Five, but also wild dogs, giraffe, bateleur eagles, and all the other animals associated with the savannah ecosystem.

Whale Watching (June to December)

Visit these gentle giants; humpbacks, southern rights, orcas or killer whales. The whales are on a 6-month migratory route from Madagascar to the Southern Ocean and pass by St Lucia on their way, so whale sightings are almost always guaranteed in peak season.

Late night Turtle Tours (November to March)

This is a seasonal trip where you can experience Leatherback turtles (weighing up to 900kg) and smaller loggerhead turtles beaching at their ancestral nesting grounds to lay their eggs.
